Queenslander homes are one of Brisbane's defining features — timber-framed, elevated on stumps, with steep external stairs leading up to the main living level. Many older Queenslanders in suburbs like Paddington, Red Hill, Ashgrove, and Bardon have these high-set designs, which can become a serious access barrier. An outdoor stairlift rated for the subtropical climate handles these external stairs safely. Some renovated Queenslanders also have internal stairs to converted lower levels, which may need a separate indoor stairlift.

Split-level homes are common across Brisbane's hillier suburbs — particularly in the western corridor through Kenmore, Chapel Hill, and The Gap, as well as across parts of the North Side.
